DIY Monster Truck Bed

A couple years ago when our son was deeply obsessed with monster trucks, i came to the realization that they do not make monster truck beds! What a shame. So we took his El Toro Loco toy truck and measured it out proportionately and then upsized to make our first bed! I had remade all the graphics cause they were not available online. Apologies if my directions suck, but i tried!

About the truck beds:

• These measurements and designs below will require some eyeballing and sketching on the wood before you cut. But it should get you almost all the way there.
• Total Pieces: Two main frame side panels, two cutout face panels, head board, toe board,
• I remade all the graphics from scratch, since they aren't available anywhere. The link to those files are below.
• Each bed took 2 sheets of plywood (i think i got 3/4"), 3 - 2X4s, some 1" or 1 1/4"screws, two 1" stick boards used for drivelines, and we used an old bed for the slats that held up the mattress. They were 1X2s and probably 20 of them the width of the bed.
• The wheels and tires are a single ATV wheel and tire I got off marketplace. I took a grinder disc and cut the wheel and tire directly in half. Sanded the wheels down and spray painted them a solid color, and the tires i took and washed with dish soap and pressure washed them.
• The Two yellow sticks you see under the middle of the truck were to represent the truck drivelines. I just screwed it in the center, and then down to where the wheels were.
• You see on the front half and back half of the truck is another wood panel that sits on face of the main truck cutout. That was to give the truck some dimension and just adds to the effect. Also hides the suspension graphic so it looks like it's behind the panel like a real truck! Once i got the large main cutout done, I just sketched on it what i wanted the cutout to look like then measured it on the plywood board and cut it out with jigsaw.
• The bed sits on a 2x4 behind each wheel thats mounted to your main truck bed frame. You can cut your 2x4 legs to your desired height. I wanted to go higher, but this was a good height to get in and out of easily. Which was about 6" off the floor.
• Head panel was measured 18" in height matching the main truck frame and width was the same as the mattress used.
• Toe panel was measured by taking the length of the mattress used, and marking that from where the headboard is. Then at the mark, you can see how high you need your toe panel to be.
• ZOMBIE ONLY: The fabric i got from a local JoAnns fabric store that is stapled to the backside of the face panel before it was mounted and the zombie arm is from some halloween decor I sourced at a local thrift store.
